What:

BSA Climbing Instructor, Tower Instructor (10 hour course) or Rock Instructor (32 hour course)

If a candidate completes both courses, they will be certified as a BSA Climbing Instructor. Scouts between 14-16 earns the "certified climber" card and 16-18 earns the Instructor In Training card. The rock course is similar to and based in part upon the beginner course offered by the Texas Mountaineers. Both courses cover the BSA Climbing and Rappelling Standards and Climb on Safely.

Who:

Registered Adults & Registered Scouts (includes Venuterers, Varsity, Explorers and Boy Scouts who are over the age of 14).
 

Where:

Tower Class - Classroom TBD, Tower @ Camp Cherokee Rock Class - Classroom at Resurrection Lutheran Church - Plano Practicum at various locations
 

When:

Tower class begins May 21, 2009 & September 5, 2009 Rock class begins April 2, 2009 & September 24, 2009

How:

Sign up for the Tower class by contacting Terry at Circle 10 Council. Sign up for the Rock class by contacting Doc Holladay. See info sheet here.
 

Why:

Be prepared to take Scouts, Crews, Ships, etc. on outings to take advantage of this rapidly growing high adventure activity. Tower Instructors will be able to lead their unit at the Cherokee climbing tower with reciprocal agreement with Longhorn Council. Rock Instructors will be able to lead their unit at outdoor venues and use Circle 10 Council climbing gear.
 

Cost:

Tower Class costs $25 and $50 for the rock course. Includes most equipment. This does not include transportation, food, and park usage fees. Each student must have a copy of and read Climb on Safely, Topping Out, the Climbing MB pamphlet and "Freedom of the Hills", 7th edition. Further for the rock course some equipment is needed - upon sign up you will get this information.
